I'm looking forward to the reunion this weekend. Although I only worked there for two summers, I have visited the Caves many, many times before and since, and it has always held a very special place for me. Haha, I was there during Nick Marshall's first year....his brother Benjy got him the job, if memory serves. The last I heard, Ted was still around, though long-retired. I, too, hope very much to see him again.

Sure wish we could be there for the reunion...it would be great to catch up with old friends. But the timing is not good for us. The Caves reunion is the same weekend we have the big volunteer appreciation picnic put on by Fort Stevens State Park and the Friends of Old Fort Stevens nonprofit corporation with which we're associated. Maybe the timing will work out better for the 2nd Annual Reunion Weekend in 2010. Diane worked for the Oregon Caves Company during the early 1980s until she gave Crater Lake Lodge a try in 1984, which is where we met. In May of 1985 we both began working at the Caves year-round into August 1987, when we left to get married. Nick, you asked about Mr. C. Sorry to say this, but Harry Christiansen passed away in March of 2003. I met Mr. C very briefly one evening in front of the Chateau in the mid-'80s when he made an overnight visit. Also was fortunate to get to interview him in the mid-1990s over the phone for an article I was writing for "Oregon Parks" magazine about the December 1964 flood at the Caves. He was a delight to talk with; just a fountain of useful information and fascinating stories. The person we're wondering about is Ranger Ted Davis. Does anybody know if he is still with us? He was such a joy to work with and seemed to really enjoy all the young "kids" who worked at the Caves every summer. So...everyone have a great time at the reunion. We send our best wishes to all and hope we can make it next year.--Jim & Diane Forst
