The Friends is a non-profit organization cooperating with the National Park Service (NPS) in the preservation, stewardship and improvement of the cultural and natural resources of the Oregon Caves National Monument. The Oregon Caves and the Chateau are unique assets of national significance that contribute to the identity and economic well-being of the local community.  The Oregon Caves Chateau, a national historic landmark and the primary historic structure in the Oregon Caves National Monument is one of the three publicly owned, historic lodges of Oregon that provide overnight accommodations.  The furnishings and setting create a feeling of nostalgia that is unforgettable.

Please join us for the MOVIE NIGHTS where you will also learn more about the Friends.  We welcome you to become a member and to share your “monument moments” of when you visited, worked there or have family members or friends who enjoyed a time there.  We want to hear from you, and encourage you to go to our website to join in the fun www.FriendsOCAC.org.    We’re grateful for the support have received and look forward to your advice and assistance with many projects.  We’re particularly excited about the level of interest we have received from innovative leaders across many fields, including broad expertise in Historic Preservation and Geology.  For additional information about Friends activities or to join in the fun, email Sue Densmore, Executive Director,  Sue@FriendsOCAC.org or phone 541-944-1139.

The NPS videos, which were co-produced with SOPTV in association with Greg Frederick Productions, will also appear later this summer throughout the Northwest and Central California on  public broadcasting stations. A virtual tour will premiere on-line at the same time. Along with the videos, the Monument are pleased to announce a ‘Caves as Classroom’ initiative with the video release.  The videos and virtual tour will be distributed to school districts throughout Oregon and Northern California accompanied by a teacher’s guide.  The virtual tour will be an exciting opportunity for those unable to visit the caves.  For person’s with mobility impairments, claustrophobia, or parents who need to wait with small children while the rest of the family tours the cave, this virtual tour will allow them to visit as well.  Due to these new “windows” into the caves, monument personnel have developed new “family tours” and anticipate a very busy year.   For more information go to www.nps.gov/orca.
